Why Coin Rather Than Bar

- Recognition. A dinar is a familiar shape to Malaysian buyers and dealers, which tends to make resale conversations shorter.
- Handling. Coins are struck to a fixed diameter and thickness, so counterfeits are easier to spot by feel and dimension than with a plain bar.
The trade-off is premium. Minting a coin costs more per gram than casting a bar, so you pay slightly above the raw metal value. On small weights that gap matters more than it does on 100 grams.
How the Price Is Worked Out
Start from the international gold price per ounce, convert to ringgit, divide down to a per-gram figure, then multiply by 4.25. Add the mint premium. That is the whole calculation.

Who a Dinar Suits
It suits someone buying gold to hold, not to trade. If you want exposure to the gold price with the lowest possible cost per gram, a larger bar wins. If you want a physical holding you can part with in pieces, and you value the coin format, the dinar earns its premium.
It does not suit anyone expecting to spend it. A dinar is not legal tender in Malaysia. Treat it as a store of value, priced off the gold market, and the decision gets much simpler.

Three things settle it: stated weight, stated fineness, and a certificate that matches the coin in your hand. Buy from a seller who publishes a buyback price, because a dealer willing to quote what they will pay you back is a dealer confident in what they sold you.
